Volunteer Opportunity

We are looking for volunteers to help out our students in the garden club. Please contact your child's teacher if you are interested in assisting. Take advantage of this opportunity to see hands on learning!

Mondays and/or Tuesdays from 2:15-2:40

 Estamos buscando a personas que quieran ser voluntarios ayudando en el club de jardinería. Por favor contacte a la maestra de su hijo/a si usted está interesado en ayudar. No se pierda esta oportunidad de ver a los niños aprender didácticamente.

   Second grade will be going on a field trip to the Paramount Theatre to see the play, Tomas and the Library Lady on Tuesday, November 19^th.

We will leave school at approximately 9:30 am and travel by school bus to downtown Austin to the Paramount Theatre.  When our play is done at 11:00, we will immediately board the buses and go to the capitol grounds to eat lunch.   

       To ensure enough seats are available for students, the play can be attended by students and staff only. Parents are welcome to meet us at the capitol at 11:30 to enjoy a quick lunch. We will be on the grounds in front of the capitol to the right.

          Segundo grado se va de excursión al Teatro Paramount para ver la obra, Tomás y la señora de la biblioteca el martes 19 de noviembre.

Saldremos de la escuela aproximadamente a las 9:30 am en los autobúses hacia el centro de Austin al Teatro Paramount. Cuando la obra se termine a las 11:00am, abordaremos inmediatamente los autobuses e iremos a los jardines del Capitolio para almorzar.

         Para garantizar suficientes asientos disponibles para los estudiantes, la obra solo puede ser asistida por los estudiantes y el personal. Los padres están invitados a reunirse con nosotros en los jardines del capitolio a las 11:30 para disfrutar de un almuerzo rápido. Vamos a estar en los jardines frente al capitolio a la derecha.

International Fair

International Fair will be held on Nov. 7 and still has openings for volunteers, please contact the Event Chair at crystal@victorpendleton.net.

Volunteers are needed before and after to help with set-up and clean-up.  Please come help out and then enjoy the fair with your family!

WBE needs donations for our International Fair booth. We are collecting empty/clean recyclable items such as aluminum cans, soup cans, paper towel and toilet paper tubes, plastic jars, small boxes, etc. We also need plastic spoons, balloons, string, and rubber bands. Please send all donations to the school office.

Talented and Gifted Information Night

Ms. Wilson and Mrs. Putaansuu will be hosting a TAG Information Meeting on Thursday, November 14 at 6:00 PM in the WBE library.  Any parent who is interested in referring their child for the TAG program should attend this meeting.  They will go over the qualities that you can look for to identify a gifted child, how to refer a student for TAG testing, as well as details about the RRISD TAG program. 

The TAG Referral Window opens on November 18 and closes on December 6.

Veteran's Day Program

Mrs. Koening and Mr. Castillo would like each student with a veteran in their family to fill out a star and turn it in to us.  We are going to hang them around the front of the school for the 3rd grade Veteran's Day program.  If you do not have access to a printer, the music teachers will have some printed out that students may pick up to fill out. They are due back to us November 6th.

Reading Rewards Program

Your child can earn a free Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut when they read. Every time your child reads for 10 minutes fill out the title of the book and sign the recording sheet.  When your child has completed the sheet and read for 400 minutes, return the sheet to your child's teacher. Your teacher will give you a coupon for a FREE pizza!! Students may only earn one coupon per month.

Our weekly homework schedule is now being added to our Second Grade Blog!!!  It will be posted by the beginning of each week.

Welcome to Second Grade

We are so excited that the 2013-2014 school year has gotten off to a successful start!!  Second graders have been getting to know their new classmates and teachers.  We have spent a lot of time setting up and modeling classroom and school expectations so that all students can do their best.

Our second grade website is currently under construction to add new teachers and update information.  We hope to have everything changed and updated soon.  Please keep checking back!

TICKET PRE-SALE

We will have a ticket pre-sale before and after the "5 de Mayo" performance on May 2nd right in front of the cafeteria around 8:50 AM. Only with your help we can make this fundraiser successful!

Austin Zoo Field Trip

Our field trip to the Austin Zoo is tomorrow!

We will depart from school no later than 9:00 a.m.  Please make sure your child is on time for school.  If you would like to attend please meet us at the front of the school by 9:00 a.m. and you are welcome to follow the buses.  If not, you can always meet us at the zoo.  Chaperones are responsible for paying the $9.00 admission fee. 

·         Remember your SACK LUNCH from home

·         NO SANDALS PLEASE!! Tennis shoes and socks are a must!

·         Please dress for the weather.

·         Pack a water bottle and a hat/ sunglasses!

·         Don’t forget sunscreen!

Pringles Needed!

Thank you so much for sending at least one can of Pringles with your child for our 2^nd grade booth coming up on April 13^th (Spring Festival).  Also, thank you for the “Fun in the Sun” donations that you’ve provided for our grade level silent auction basket.  It will be a great basket for someone to purchase at the festival.  Thank you to all festival volunteers!

The only way we can make the Spring Festival beneficial for our school is through the sacrifice of time and donations from our wonderful parents!

If you have not been able to donate, it is not too late to send in a can of Pringles.  Right now we have 68 cans of Pringles.  If each student in second grade donated 1-2 cans, we would have between 160 - 320 cans of Pringles for students to win at the festival.   

The Spring Festival is going to be a fun time!
