Field Trip Tomorrow!

Dear 2nd Grade Parents,

Just a friendly reminder that our field trip to the ZACH Theatre to see Holiday Heroes  is scheduled for Thursday, November 29th.   To make the field trip more pleasant, please send the following items in your child’s back pack:

·        A water bottle
·        A beach towel to sit on while they eat.
·        A sack lunch from home (unless you ordered one from the cafeteria.)
*Remember the sack lunch options from the cafeteria are Ham and Tomato Salad or Cheese and Tomato Salad. If your child is signed up for a school lunch this day, but will not eat one of the above options, please send them with a sack lunch from home.

We will be leaving school at 9:15. We will be eating lunch after the performance at approximately 12:00 at Zilker Park.  Please make sure your child is on time for school.

Thanks!!!!

Dismissal Procedures

Thank you for your help in following dismissal procedures. Please remember that parents walking up to pick up their child, should have their child designated as a walker for pick up near the bike rack. Students in the car rider area are dismissed into cars in the line.  Also, as much as we all love our pets, we must ask that parents on foot refrain from bringing pets on campus for arrival or dismissal. Even the friendliest pet is intimidating to children who are afraid of them... and 900 children in dismissal mode can throw even the most benign animal into survival mode. For the safety of our students and peace of mind for some, please leave pets at home.

Volunteers Needed!

We have a reward system to help promote positive behavior in the cafeteria. Ms. Carley sent out a request for parent volunteers so that we can continue this reward system. The volunteers are needed at the school since it involves the use of our die cut machine and hanging things in the cafeteria. We need die cuts of the explorers on an ongoing basis. We are already low in some grade levels. We also need a couple of parents who will post the explorers on Friday afternoons or Monday mornings. Let me your teacher know if you are able to help and they will pass your name to Ms. Carley.

Carley.

Spring has Sprung!

Flowers blooming, windy skies, birds chirping, warmer weather...It is hard to believe that spring is already here! Not only does spring officially arrive this week but we started the 4th and final grading period of 2nd grade today! In 10 short weeks we will no longer have 2nd graders but we will have 3rd graders!

We have a lot of exciting things planned for the end of the school year and appreciate all our parents for supporting our classrooms. Please look for notes and emails from your child's teacher about ways you can help enhance our learning in the classroom. Students get excited about the end of the year but it is important for them to remember school expectations until the very end. Thank you for reinforcing this at home!

Spring conferences will not need to be held for every child like they were in the fall. Your child's teacher will contact you if there is an academic concern that needs to be discussed before the end of the year. However, you are welcome to request a conference at any time with your child's teacher.

Dismissal Change

Welcome back to school! We hope that you all had a relaxing and enjoyable winter break!

Beginning in January, there is a change in our dismissal procedures - specifically in regards to WALKERS!

A child will be considered a

WALKER if:
  •  they walk home by themself or with other children.
  • an adult will walk up to the school to get their child to walk home or ride in a car.
CAR RIDER if:
  • an adult will drive through the car rider line and pick the child up from the dismissal area in the back of the school (the adult does not leave the car).
If you are driving to the school, parking your car, and walking to the school; please do not park in no-parking zones. The sheriff does patrol the school at dismissal times and we do not want any of you to get a ticket! There are specific times that parking on Merriltown and Town Hill are no-parking zones (this includes loading and unloading students).

IF THERE IS A CHANGE TO YOUR CHILD'S WAY OF GOING HOME:
  • Please send in a note that clearly states how your child will be going home based on the definitions above and for how long this change will occur (just for that day, remainder of the school year, etc).
  • If it is a change that occurs during the school day, please call the front office (428-3400) and leave a message for your child's teacher with them. Teachers do not always have the opportunity to check email or phone messages during the middle of the day.
Thank you so much for your attention to safety and changes to school procedures. Your assistance will help our transition go more smoothly. Contact your child's teacher for any additional questions you may have.
