Thank You for Coming to Fall Conferences!

Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters

Second Grade will be going on our first field trip Tuesday, October 4th! We will be going to the Paramount Theatre to watch the play Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters. After the play we will be eating lunch in front of the State Capitol. We invite parents to join us for lunch since there is such limited space for the play. We will be eating in front of the Capitol on the grass.

Please be sure to sign and return the permission slip that was sent home last week to your child's teacher. If you need an additional copy of the permission slip, it can be found to the right of the page under the header "Important Stuff."

Parent Orientation

2nd Grade Parents Come Volunteer!

There are many ways for parents to volunteer to help Wells Branch Elementary. You can volunteer in the classroom, library, through the PTA, plus more. If you would like to volunteer, you will need to fill out the Volunteer Application. This application must be filled out every school year and must be complete at least 72 hours in advance.

Homework

This week we began posting the weekly homework to our 2nd grade website. You will find it on the right hand side of our main page. Since it is for the grade level it does not include the specifics of which specials the different classes will be attending. You will notice that on Mondays there will normally be a reading comprehension sheet for homework. This will begin on Monday, September 12. If you have any questions or concerns in regards to the homework, please contact your child's teacher.

Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year!

Welcome to 2nd Grade!!!

The 2nd Grade teachers would like to welcome all our new students and families to a great year in 2nd Grade. School will be starting very soon and we are so excited to meet you all.

IMPORTANT DATES:
  • Wednesday, August 17 (4-6 pm) - WBE Welcome Walk
  • Thursday, August 18 (5:30-7 pm) - Back to School Night
  • Tuesday, August 23 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!
SCHOOL SUPPLIES:

Don't forget to bring you school supplies to Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, August 18th. If you pre-ordered your school supplies last summer from the PTA they will be in your child's classroom. Cafeteria Charges

Wow! It is May and the end of the school year is approaching quickly. Just a friendly reminder, that with the end of the school year coming so quickly, the cafeteria is no longer allowing students to have an outstanding balance on their lunch account. Please make sure that your child has money in their account or with them each day. If a student does not have enough money in their account, they will be given a cheese sandwich for lunch. This can be very disappointing to some students. If you have questions about your child's account you can contact the cafeteria. Thank you!

Austin Zoo Field Trip


On Tuesday, May 3rd, Second Grade will be going on a field trip to the Austin Zoo. This field trip compliments our unit of study on animals. Please be sure that you return the permission slip by Monday, April 18th.

We would love to have our parents join us on the field trip. Admission for adults joining us is $8/person. You may meet us at the zoo or follow the buses. If you need an additional permission slip it is posted on the Second Grade website in the right hand column under "important stuff." If you have additional questions, please contact your child's teacher.

Valentine's Day Parties


Valentine's Day is coming up on Monday, February 14th. We will be celebrating the holiday with Valentines and treats. Your child's teacher has sent home a note with specific information about the parties. If you have questions please contact them directly. Second grade parties will take place in your child's classroom from 1:45-2:30. If you are planning on joining us that day, please make sure that you bring you ID and check into the office.

International Fair Needs Your Help!!!

This is our last plea to get 3 people to volunteer to help make International Fair happen! We have split the tasks up to lighten the work load.

We need someone for each of the following:
1. Booth Coordination - make sure all of the countries  
    have all of the materials and information that they need.
2. Entertainment - find entertainment for that night.
3. Food - find places to donate food that represents the
    countries.

This is such a fun and educational event for students. If you can help, please let Jill Verrico know ASAP! She, the previous chair, and the rest of the PTA Board will be there to help any way you need. Let's make it happen!
